At its March 22, 2024, meeting, the Lake Erie Committee allotted to Pennsylvania a Yellow Perch total allowable catch (TAC) of 457,000 pounds, a 14% decrease from 2023, and 16% below the long-term average of 546,768 pounds. The 2024 level includes a Yellow Perch TAC for Pennsylvania's commercial trap net fishery of 100,000 pounds. Currently, Pennsylvania is a very small part of the total Yellow Perch harvest in Lake Erie.

The Lake Erie Walleye hatches have been record-setting over the last five years while the Yellow Perch hatches have been poor over the last five years. Walleye fishing is excellent and Yellow Perch fishing remains below average. Anglers tend to fish for species based on the quality of the fishery. In 2023, 86% of Lake Erie boat anglers targeted Walleye, while only about 1% targeted Yellow Perch.

We do offer group rates, for groups of 20 or more paying adults. With group reservations, we are able to arrange for lunch on board, while cruises from Kelleys Island to Put-in-Bay, and a narrated tram tour on Put-in-Bay. We took the 2 hour sunset cruise over Memorial Day weekend. The PFBC's objective is to keep harvest limits at conservative levels without being too restrictive to fisheries, but also be able to act promptly if Walleye or perch populations reach critically low levels.

The Yellow Perch and Walleye populations in Lake Erie are maintained strictly by natural reproduction. Good "hatches" and survival of young fish are necessary to provide fish for sport and commercial fisheries.
